Born in Sweden and trained in the fine arts of industrial design at the reputable Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, Kim Michel is the Global Design Director & General Manager of the renowned Danish design firm, Jacob Jensen Design in Shanghai, China.
As a multi-award winning designer, consultant and mentor, Kim is an international design ambassador with extensive global experience through companies such as Semcon, Electrolux, Zanussi, AEG, Frigidaire and Jacob Jensen Design.
Kim has a decade’s long experience working both in consultant and in-house roles across Europe, US and China. He begun his career as a design consultant for Swedish multinational technology company, Semcon in Italy. Since then he has spent a great part of his professional career working for the Swedish global home appliances brand, Electrolux AB.
In 2017 Kim moved to Shanghai, China, where he was tasked to support Electrolux local management to grow their design team and implement their new Scandinavian design strategy. In 2019, Kim joined the ranks of Denmark’s iconic design firm, Jacob Jensen Design, as Creative Director for the Greater China region. In this role, Kim was responsible for the growth and development of Jacob Jensen Design in China where him, together with an international team of designers, help a wide variety of companies and brands across diverse industrial sectors to develop unique design solutions and contribute to the growth of brands through comprehensive creative and consulting services. During the past three years he has successfully established Jacob Jensen Design as one of the key premium design consultancies in China, Kim was promoted to Global Design Director of Jacob Jensen Design Consulting services and General Manager for the China operations. His relentless pursuit of design excellence, team development and customer satisfaction are key attributes that makes Jacob Jensen Design a key partner that clients can count on.
Throughout his design journey, he has actively contributed to a variety of commercial successes that have garnered him and his team a variety of prestigious design accolades including Red Dot, iF, Good Design® Awards, among others.
