This "LÅNGAS" Chair was originally designd
2013 as part of the interior of new a funeral
- chapel* inside an historic cloister at the
Valley "Lesachtal" in Carinthia.
Since the alpine Valley is very well known
for its timber handicraft, I used this
traditional knowledge for building the chapel
as well as to produce the chairs.

"LÅNGAS" is native dialect word for "spring",
a time of new beginnings, which describes
perfectly the philosophy of my design.

Thats why it´s importand to me, to involve
local carpenters in my work. I am hoping to
create a new impact for the economy of the
commune, by worshipping the local expertise
and reinterpeting it in a modern way.
To optimize the ecological footprint I also
used massiv larch wood from the regional high
- mountain forest, for making a sustainable
product.

The design concept of the chair is based on
light, minimalistic lines which are in
cotrast to the heavy material I used: massive
montan-larch. By brushing and treating the
wood with linseed oil its characteristic
pattern appears even more. A thin brass stick
an both sides of the seat base guarantees
stability. The slender proportions of the
seats allows to use them also in smaller
rooms without looking packed. Nevertheless
its very comfortable sitting on it. The chair
shall be the start of serial I design for
producing it with local professionals.

*additional informations:
To give the funeral task of the chapel a
worthy and consoling atmosphere, bright and
warm colours and materials where used (brass
textile, travertin, glas, wood). Besides the
furniture also all other wooden parts of the
room, such as the thick door, the window
sills and the massiv threshhould are made of
local larch. the calm environment allows
every colour of flower arangement.
