The Red Chair

The Red Chair is a story in three parts. The first is about a research project with a focus on physiological and psychological reactions to colors, materials, and textures, also known as visceral design. The second is an exercise in melding craftsmanship and technology; to make something by hand that looks made by hand, however is designed to be made by a machine if the market so desires. The last, is to deliver a narrative through the medium of furniture. The Red Chair proves that design can be inspired by an artist's personal story but still be relevant to the furniture market at large.
