The designers were challenged to conduct
research in innovative materials and
manufacturing techniques that could be
applied to a well though out and designed
product. Nuri is a combination crib and
changing table created for an environmentally
aware family with a smooth and simplified taste
in furniture. The changing table is on a hinge
that can be mounted on top of the crib and
rotated backward when not in use. The
aesthetics of the side panels were reinvented
and diverged from the typical fence-like
structure retaining the ability to see the baby
and have airflow but in a more visually
appealing manner. It reduces the amount of
space needed for unnecessary furniture, and
gives one item multiple purposes. The chosen
materials for this crib are either biodegradable
or recyclable, meaning, at the end of its life
cycle the crib materials' have the opportunity
to be put into use for another product or to
decompose without negative side effects to the
environment. Could be marketed as a more
environmentally friendly crib. The packaging
would be simplified because of the way the
product is assembled, meaning, less packaging
material would be needed. Cost savings in
packaging and shipping.
