The Daily was the world's first iPad-only news
app in the United
States and Australia, owned by News
Corporation. It was launched
on February 2, 2011 and ceased operations on
December 3, 2012,
because it could not find a large enough
audience quickly. How to
make The Daily reborn is the design challenge.
Digital media was once the wave of the future,
and today that
tsunami has crested, crashed and flooded the
world. But what about
our old friend print media? For those who think
print media washed
away in the digital media flood, think again.
Print media is still
relevant and the preferred medium of many,
particularly in America.
In fact, the United States has the highest
number of print media
outlets in the world and the highest circulation
of print media. Based
on the research, over 70% people read the
news in the morning.
83% people prefer to read print newspaper
rather than digital
content. That means print media is still print
still maintains its
stance as a powerful and necessary component
of newspapers.
On the other hand, living in a fast-paced world,
more and more
young people have no time to cook in the
morning. Thus, a
door-to-door delivery service is the best
choice for this group of
audience, specially for the white-collars.
This Daily Breakfast is a personalized news
experience that based
on the The Daily app data. By connecting with
the mobile app the
customers can personalize their papers articles
and desired
breakfast. The customer can get the main
content quick, while still
be able to read full articles on the mobile app.
The Daily gives every
person personalized insight into today's news,
as fast as possible by
partnering with local Kinkos printing suppliers
in every city. Thus,
every morning, the customers will have their
perfect hot breakfast
which is packaged with today’s customized
newspapers at the door
of their house.
