This project was approached with the objective
to innovate the standard mirror into a
statement piece that integrates the function of
a simple storage option. The final product is a
contemporary, French cleat wall-mounted
mirror with the capability of storing small items
such as jewelry, keys, photos, etc. It can be
appreciated as simply a design statement piece
in the home, or utilized as a mirror and basic
storage solution. The greatest design challenge
of this project was the French cleat wall-
mounting system that required a great amount
of planning to ensure that the pieces not only
lined up perfectly on the mirror, but also were
secure and flush with the wall upon which it
was mounted. The design of the wooden frame
also had to take into account the additional
bulk that the fabric added to the bottom edges
of the interior mirror. Taking advantage of
recycled materialsand responsibly harvested
hardwood, thispiece maximizescontemporary
aestheticsand utility, and minimizes
environmental impact.
