Kaleidoscope: Integrating the Historical and the Modern

The “Kaleidoscope” is a product for illuminated home décor
combining historical glass and modern glass technology. The
restrained construction of two concentric glass cylinders on a
satined glass stand is a showcase for the interplay between
fragments of ancient glass and other contrasting materials.

Reminiscent of an old-fashioned kaleidoscope, the deeply
colored glass fragments are fixed in random arrangements
between the two cylinders or built up edge-to-edge in self-
supporting patterns. As a further historical reference, the
fragments are of glass produced according to a variety of
centuries-old recipes.

The physical properties and colors of the glass are
underscored by fragments of contrasting materials –
parchment, silk and linen – distributed in the space. Like a
kaleidoscope, the pattern of form, color and orientation of the
materials in each individual lamp represents a unique moment
in time.

The dimmable LED light source produces warm illumination
that accentuates the spectral interchange of color and shape
within each lamp. These color effects can also be enjoyed in
natural light.
